Logos Go Simple
You can lead the horse to water… well you know the rest. Brand development and logos are some of the most difficult tasks in the world to accomplish effectively. Many an arduous hour can be spent laboring away on revision after revision far outweighing the projected scope of work as multiple inputs change the dynamic. This is the nature of the work, however a particular trend is giving some much needed relief to designers. Simplicity.
And you read that correctly, the latest trend in logo design is simplicity. The founder of logo lounge and long-time designer, Bill Gardner was just recently quoted in an article as saying, “This movement to a more spartan design solution is not exclusive to logo design. Websites are being scrubbed to clarify content and boil down the message. Packaging on shelves stand out when the brand allows the consumer eye to rest in a category awash in clutter.” (Read More) We could not agree more with his view on the upward swing of clean and simple design spanning web sites, print and brand marking.
Gone are skeuomorphic and ultra-detailed/complex logos of the past, at least for now. Minimalism is the new paramount, think about minimalism this way; it removes all of the unnecessary and leaves only the essential. Essentially minimalism strips all the misuse of Photoshop and pretentious B.S. from logo design that we have seen over the past five years. Minimalism isn’t new and it is expected to retain its popularity throughout 2017 and 2018. Clean, simple and smart focus, minimalism allows a unique logo to be used across multiple platforms and applications.
